If the amount has jumped, compare the reading dates and units first. The worksheet below checks the subtraction; an older unpaid balance needs a separate check.
Read the consumption line before the rupee total
For a MEPCO bill that suddenly looks larger, collect the present reading, previous reading, reading dates and any multiplying factor printed on that bill. Compare the same meter and the same register. A photograph taken today is useful evidence, but its date may be later than the bill’s reading date.
The small worksheet below explains the subtraction. It does not decide whether the utility’s reading is correct. Meter replacement, a corrected reading or an adjustment may need a separate explanation from MEPCO. Do not treat a negative difference as negative electricity consumption.

Example: 12,700 minus 12,450 gives 250 units when the multiplying factor is 1. If the issued bill reports another quantity, first compare the dates and meter identity. Then look for an adjustment or replacement note before raising a dispute. These sample readings show the calculation; they are not taken from a customer account.
A household and a tube-well need different estimates
Read the tariff/category code on the MEPCO copy. A connection used for a shop, workshop or agricultural pump should not be estimated as residential simply because it is on the same property. The electricity calculator here covers the named residential schedule only.
Sanctioned load is the approved connection load shown on the bill. It is not the sum of whichever appliances happened to be running when you checked the meter. For a ToU bill, retain both peak and off-peak consumption instead of merging them before calculating.
Keep a useful record for MEPCO
- Open the correct monthUse the reference number on a MEPCO bill and check that the result belongs to your connection. Save the complete copy, not only its amount.
- Record the mismatchWrite the billed reading, your observed reading and the date of each. Explain whether the issue concerns consumption, an adjustment, a payment or the tariff category.
- Use an official complaint channelSend the relevant account details and evidence to the provider through its official service. Keep the complaint ID and the exact correction requested.
An earlier receipt helps with a payment dispute; a meter photograph helps with a reading dispute. Providing the right evidence is more useful than repeatedly submitting the same unexplained high-bill complaint.

Can I find a MEPCO bill using my name?
The public PITC lookup provides account-identifier fields. Use the reference number or the official Customer ID option; this site does not maintain a name-search database.
Can this worksheet estimate an agricultural bill?
No. It explains a reading difference in kWh. Agricultural tariffs and eligibility require the applicable provider schedule, not the residential calculator.
What if the meter was changed?
Keep the old and new meter details and the replacement record. Simple subtraction across different meters can give a meaningless result; ask MEPCO to reconcile that period.
