On a digital meter, kWh, kW and export readings mean different things. Match each register to the corresponding bill line before adding or subtracting values.
Digital displays can show several different quantities
An IESCO account with a digital meter may display energy registers alongside demand, voltage or other readings. A number on the screen is not necessarily the bill’s total kWh. Match the register label, unit and date to the information on the issued bill.
Do not rely on one display-code list for every meter model. Use the documentation for the installed model or ask IESCO to identify the register. The smart-meter guide shows a method for recording readings using the labels on your meter.
| Information on the bill | Record separately |
|---|---|
| Peak and off-peak kWh | Both energy quantities for the same billing period. |
| MDI / demand | The stated demand in kW; it is not another energy-unit total. |
| Import and export | Energy received from the grid and energy sent to it. |
Use the issued bill as the starting record
- Open IESCO’s PITC pageEnter the reference number from an IESCO copy, or choose Customer ID on the official form if that is the identifier you have.
- Match the meter and billing periodCompare meter identity and reading dates before comparing a live display photograph with a monthly bill.
- Save the complete breakdownKeep both usage and charge sections. A cropped total will not show which register or category produced a charge.
Our helper cannot read a smart meter remotely, confirm that a meter is communicating, or tell whether an application has been approved. Those questions belong to IESCO’s account and metering services.
Solar export does not make every bill line disappear
Keep your signed agreement, installation information and the current import/export statement together. The treatment of exported units depends on the applicable arrangement and rules. Avoid subtracting export kWh from import kWh and assuming the result is a complete payable bill.
Read the solar and prosumer guide and check the current NEPRA regulations and your agreement. Check the rate in the rules that apply to your agreement.
Make a meter query easy to investigate
Take a readable photograph that includes the display label and meter identity, then record the time. Write which line on the bill appears inconsistent. If several register screens cycle, record their labels separately rather than adding them together.
Use the official complaint channel for the account details. Do not open the meter enclosure, alter seals or attempt a correction yourself. A screenshot sent to PakistanBillCheck cannot trigger a utility meter inspection.
IESCO support and complaints
For a IESCO reading, balance or supply issue, use PITC’s electricity complaint portal or the complaint contact printed on your current bill. Save the case number so you can follow up on the same issue.
For an error in this guide, contact PakistanBillCheck with the page link and the sentence or broken link. Leave out your private account details.
Questions you may have
Does a smart meter mean I have a ToU tariff?
Check your actual tariff category, sanctioned load and bill registers. Meter capability alone does not establish the rate applied to your account.
Can I estimate my solar settlement with the residential calculator?
No. That calculator does not model export credits or agreement-specific prosumer settlement.
Is MDI measured in units?
MDI is demand information, commonly expressed in kW on the bill. Energy consumption is measured in kWh; they should not be entered in the same field.
