Is your connection RLNG or system gas?
A new meter does not tell you the tariff by its appearance. Read the connection basis in your demand notice, signed contract and bill. SNGPL currently processes new domestic applications on RLNG. Its FAQ distinguishes these accounts from existing system-gas consumers, whose local-gas tariff continues.
RLNG has a flat gas rate; system-gas domestic bills use their own protected or non-protected slabs. Your neighbour's bill is therefore a poor price comparison unless category, period and consumption also match. Read the official domestic RLNG FAQ before accepting a quoted monthly cost.
Which rate period can we verify?
Checked 2 October 2026: the latest monthly entry found in OGRA's RLNG register was September 2026. The notice dated 24 September, effective 1 September, gives SNGPL's provisional distribution reference price of US$15.1963 per MMBtu, excluding GST. That is a dollar reference component, not a complete household invoice in rupees.
We did not verify an October 2026 domestic PKR rate or the utility's billing exchange-rate basis. Use your bill's applicable rupee rate or request it from SNGPL. Provisional prices can produce later adjustments.
Use MMBtu and the printed rupee rate
A gas meter records volume. GCV describes energy content; billing converts volume into MMBtu using the applicable measurement factors. Use the billed MMBtu first, rather than treating the raw counter difference as energy.
Gas-charge arithmetic = billed MMBtu × applicable PKR rate per MMBtu. If no rupee rate is printed, ask SNGPL which rate and period produced the gas-charge line. Dividing the whole payable total by MMBtu mixes other charges into the rate.
| Invented energy quantity | Hypothetical rate — not a tariff | Hypothetical gas-charge component |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MMBtu | Rs. 3,500/MMBtu | 0.5 × 3,500 = Rs. 1,750 |
| 1 MMBtu | Rs. 3,500/MMBtu | 1 × 3,500 = Rs. 3,500 |
| 2 MMBtu | Rs. 3,500/MMBtu | 2 × 3,500 = Rs. 7,000 |
Replace both inputs with your own period's verified figures. These hypothetical results exclude every other charge below. They do not predict a stove-only or winter household bill.
What remains outside the gas-charge calculation?
| Bill item | How to handle it |
|---|---|
| Meter rent | Copy the billed amount; the public RLNG contract leaves its numeric rent blank. |
| Minimum charge | The contract allows an OGRA-notified minimum; zero consumption does not establish a zero bill. |
| Taxes and other charges | Check the actual amount and basis; unknown is not the same as zero. |
| Adjustment, balance or credit | Identify its period and add or subtract it once. |
SNGPL's FAQ says RLNG does not carry the monthly fixed charge imposed on domestic system-gas accounts. That does not remove rent, taxes or applicable minimum charges. Compare with the printed before-due amount; retain the bill's due date.
SNGPL’s September 2025 appliance illustration
The official RLNG affidavit provides the following monthly illustration for four hours of daily appliance use. Its footnote uses the 11 September 2025 OGRA notification. These historical figures are not October 2026 prices.
| Illustrated appliance use | Historical illustrative amount |
|---|---|
| Stove only | Rs. 4,802 |
| Geyser only | Rs. 16,750 |
| Heater only | Rs. 9,581 |
| Geyser and stove | Rs. 21,552 |
| Stove, geyser and heater | Rs. 31,133 |
The table does not provide enough appliance-rating assumptions to reproduce each amount independently. Actual energy use, reading days, gas price and remaining bill lines can differ.
Your connection payment is not monthly gas consumption
The refundable security starts at Rs. 20,000 under the domestic RLNG contract and can be reviewed. Service-line, fast-track and house-line expenses are separate connection costs. Paying a deposit does not prepay each month's gas. See the new-connection fee breakdown and keep the demand-notice receipt with the contract.
Compare two bills without confusing use and price
- Match the account basis and dates. Compare the same tariff category and note each reading period's days.
- Compare billed energy. Divide each MMBtu figure by its reading days. A shorter month can reduce the total without reducing daily use.
- Compare rates and separate lines. Check the rupee gas rate, rent, taxes, adjustments and previous balance individually. Ask SNGPL about the specific changed line.
Keep notes privately; no bill upload is needed here. Comparing daily energy helps explain a difference, but weather, occupancy and appliance use still matter.
Meter installed but the first bill has not arrived?
Record the gas-supply commissioning date and keep your connection documents. The RLNG contract says to contact SNGPL to establish payment liability and obtain a duplicate if the first bill is not received within 90 days of commissioning. You can ask earlier; this is not an installation deadline or three free months of gas.
Use the issued consumer account number for duplicate-bill lookup. An application reference tracks the connection process and is not automatically the billing account number.
